When the book tells you that it is a plus size romance, automatically you assume that it is the woman in the story that is plus size, like men can’t be fat too. Or maybe it’s just that most romance novels focus on the physical “flaws” of the women, while all of the men are tall, cut, and gorgeous. More and more though, romance authors are turning this trope on its ear by making the man the plus size character, and not in the whole he’s the size of a tree sort of way. These men have bellys, and I am a big believer that a keg can be just as sexy as a six pack if worn by the right man. Marie Lipscomb embraces the idea that the man can be the plus size character in her book Rhythm.
Finn is the rock star drummer for the band Vixen’s Wail which is planning to go on tour for a month to try to cement their following. Since Symphonic Metal is not to everyone’s taste, when he gets the opportunity to stay in a duplex in the woods for a week, where he doesn’t have to worry about disturbing the peace with his practice, he takes it. Too bad the other half of the duplex doesn’t stay empty. The woman who interrupts the pounding of his drums is the soft and curvy type of gorgeous. She’s also incredibly pissed.
A quiet weekend away in a cabin is just what Beth needs to find her creative spark in time for the charity gallery showing. Aft er arriving at the beautiful cabin, she sets up her easel, takes out her paints, and gets down to the business of being creative in the blessed silence, until it’s interrupted by a crazy rhythmic pounding from downstairs. Her neighbor is a tall, broad, thickly built bear of a man who is sexy as sin, and irritating as hell. His version of quiet is a heck of a lot different than hers and they repeatedly butt heads until each is doing their level best to get a rise out of the other.
When a flash flood destroys the bottom floor of the duplex and forces Finn to stay with Beth, things turn instantly charged and it becomes apparent that all of that irritation is hiding some pretty rocking attraction.
This is a great story! I love that Finn is a big, furry, guy who compares himself to Animal from The Muppets. It probably helps that I’ve always had a thing for drummers π I also love that both Beth and Finn use their art to help them work through their emotions and of course when things go to hell with their relationship, it’s their art that helps them fix it.
Rhythm is the first book in the Vixens Rock series and is definitely worth a read, so check it out on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited if you like rock star romance.
Well done, Marie Lipscomb! Well done!
