Let’s Review: Lori Sjoberg

Trouble in a Tight Dress.

Let me just begin by saying how very much I like this title!  It makes me picture a hot alpha male  sitting at a bar, looking dead cool and thinking of how he has no intention of getting involved with a woman, until of course a sexy woman walks in who is in need of rescue.  Luckily, that is pretty much what I got from this story!

Austin, the sexy brooding security specialist, is fairly jaded about relationships thanks to his ex-wife.  He has no intention of getting into a relationship and just wants to focus on his latest job.  Enter Nina. She is gorgeous, smart, and as his employee, completely off limits.  A kiss ignites all of the attraction brewing, and when Austin discovers that Nina’s Mafia brother has plans to drag her back into the family business, he realizes that his beautiful employee is in trouble higher than the slit in her very tight dress.

I love the story line and I love that Austin and his brothers run Six Point Security.  I will definitely read the rest of the series which tells the stories of Austin’s brothers.  I especially want to read Wade’s story since Lori Sjoberg dangled some pretty enticing carrots where he is concerned.

Having said all of that, there were a couple things that bugged me.  One is that I felt like some of the characters had unrealistic reactions.  At one point Nina called Austin in the middle of the night after she had been kidnapped.  Instead of acting upset and demanding the story, Austin was just like, okay, I’ll come get you.  The other thing that bugged me is that I felt like there had been a book before Austin’s that I hadn’t read.  There isn’t, I checked.  But previous events were mentioned without explaining the back story and I felt like I was missing something.  Of course, it partly makes me want to read more to piece it all together, but I also find it kind of annoying.

Overall, Trouble in a Tight Dress is a great read.  The characters are likable and the story is engaging.  I am totally going to keep up with the series, so pick up the first book!

Well done, Lori Sjoberg!

Let’s Review: Alpha’s Promise

Reading a series.  There are pros and cons.

Pro:  The world and the characters continue. Yay!

Con: In order to really know and appreciate the story, you have to read all of the books in the series.

Rebecca Zanetti has knocked it out of the park with her new Dark Protectors novel Alpha’s Promise.  This book is about Ivar the Viking. (Just picture Alexander Skarsgard and you will know how I envision Ivar 😜.). As one of the Seven, tasked with protecting the world and keeping the evil Cyst Ulric contained, Ivar is not looking for love.  Truly, none of these guys are looking for love, which must be why I find it insanely satisfying when the strong women Zanetti writes show up and knock the warriors off their feet.

Promise Williams is definitely a strong woman.  A scientist who readily admits that she has trouble relating and understanding others,  Promise is super smart and incredibly blunt.  My favorite part is when she and Ivar are about to get busy for the first time and she whips out a pocket rocket for “clitoral stimulation”.  I laughed out loud imagining the look on the sexy Viking’s face.

This book is another great addition  to the Dark Protectors series.  All of my favorite characters made an appearance, keeping us firmly locked in the Dark Protectors world.  My only nitpick is the title. Ivar is definitely an alpha male, all of the Dark Protectors are, but when I see alpha I think shifter.  Ivar is not a shifter.  Once I read the description and got into the book I was fine, but looking at the title I thought the book was going to be about a shifter.  My fault 🙂

Read the Dark Protectors and Alpha’s Promise!  I can’t wait for the next book!

Well done Rebecca Zanetti!  Well done!

Letters to Heaven

Letters to Heaven.

It sounds like a country song, (Which apparently it is, thanks to Dolly Parton!) or the title of some sort of poignant inspirational story that will get made into a movie on Lifetime.  In reality, it is the yearning in my heart to talk to my mother.  So let’s see…

Dear Mom,

My heart aches,

because you are gone.

(Good start, huh?  It rhymes and everything.)

I would give anything

just to hold your hand,

to be the support you need,

to help you stand.

I think about you every day,

There’s so much more

I want to say,

but now

the only thing I’ve got,

are letters to Heaven.

Today I really need some time,

A cup of coffee would be fine.

I need to hear your voice,

To see your face,

But I’ve got no choice,

I’ll just have to keep writing,

Letters to Heaven.

Forty years

is not enough for me.

I dry my tears

on shining memories,

Then cry again

thinking of what you will miss.

I need more

than just a letter to Heaven.

I almost called you today,

I forgot you’d gone away.

Then I remembered

and my heart wept,

because all I have now

are letters to Heaven.
