Let’s Review: Michele Mills

Anyone a Star Trek fan? Star Wars? Battlestar Galactica? If any of those shows are calling your name, then this author is for you! I have been binge reading ALL of her books that are available on Kindle Unlimited and I have not been disappointed. These stories are funny, sexy, romantic and action packed, and even better, they all are part of a series so you can just keep on going.

The book that began my obsession and is currently on my I-need-to-own-this list, is called His Human Nanny. I LOVE this book! Think Hellboy (because let’s tell the truth, Ron Perlman even as a big, red, horned demon is HOT) and then add a curvy, sweet, heroine and you’ve got Aegir and Riley. Aegir is a Hyrrokin: big, red, and muscled. He has horns, fans, and a long….TAIL. As if all of that isn’t enough, he’s the father of twins and desperately needs a nanny. Riley, the human, is the nanny he gets and she is wholly unprepared for all that is Aegir.

This book straight up started me out with visions of Star Trek. When Riley first arrives on Aegir’s planet she gets there by transporter. I could totally picture her standing on the glowing circle, all that was missing was Scotty or Miles O’brien (depending on your Star Trek preference) standing nearby working the controls. It got even better when she materialized, got her first look at Aegir and FAINTED because she thought he was Satan! I laughed so hard I cried. Aegir of course caught her and away they went.

This is the first book in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series and I can’t wait for the second, His Human Surrogate, which comes out in August. Not only is the first book funny and sexy, but I love that Riley’s size is completely accepted not only by Aegir who is of course completely enamored by all of her soft curves, but by all of the other Hyrrokin on his planet. The Hyrrokin species are large; even the females are large and muscled and that allows Riley to feel small and feminine, maybe even normal and accepted for once. As a curvy girl, I totally understand that need and my romantic heart wants to sigh every time Aegir sweeps Riley off her feet.

If you aren’t all about red, muscled demons, than how about Klingons? The next series I read (and to be honest, I’ve binged four of them and have three more to go) is called Alien Bounty Hunters. These books are about a species called the Xylan and when I read about them I pictured Worf from Star Trek Next Generation (season 5 or 6), only way more built. Xylan are huge, buff, warriors who have dark skin tones, ridges in their foreheads (and other places, oh, my!) and very strict guidelines about mating and honor. This species mates for life and only becomes aroused when they have found their Bride, which they can only do by testing mating compatibility through touching hands. Once they have found their mates, watch out, because all of those pent up hormones are released and crazy hot sex is imminent.

I was first introduced to this species when I read Mean Right Hook, which isn’t actually in the Alien Bounty Hunter series, but instead a spin off. This novella is book 1 in the Fever Brothers series (which I will be reading more of) and introduces us to Leah who is a human working on a mining planet. Her elevator breaks down and she is stuck in the dark with a sexy, silent, Xylan known as Hook (a.k.a Saxon). Things get interesting and hot when mating compatibility is accidentally tested and Saxon and Leah need to keep their clothes on until they can get out of the elevator. This bite size romance is awesome and leaves you not exactly wanting for more, but definitely waiting for the next story.

After falling in love with Saxon, I of course wanted to read more about the Xylan: enter Rayzor’s One, Joyzal’s Prize, and Kayzon’s Wish. Each of these features sexy Xylan bounty hunters and their strong Human mates. Reading these books is like watching an episode of your favorite sci-fi show, but with a guaranteed happy ending.

My favorite bounty hunter book by far is Syrin’s Mate (book 4). All of the Xylan are badass, but Syrin is the badass all the rest wish they could be. The book starts with Sara, a human female, being falsely imprisoned in a place that makes hell seem cheerful. Syrin is her cell mate and her only hope of surviving her incarceration. Not only is he huge and scary looking, but he has two friends who are equally intimidating, and he’s what the Xylan call a Berserker. Berserkers are Xylan who turn into killing machines when they get angry. They lose control and literally get larger and more ferocious. They cannot differentiate between their enemies and their allies and unless restrained and tranquilized will kill indiscriminately. In a prison filled with convicts who want you dead, having a Berserker at your back is a very good thing. It also helps when you find out he’s your mate and that you are the only one who can calm his rage.

Thanks to all of these action packed, sexy stories, Michele Mills has made it onto my list of favorite authors and I look forward to exploring more of her books.

Well done, Michele Mills! Well done!
